Society of Pharmacometrics & Health Analytics
Professional society dedicated specifically to quantitative sciences within clinical pharmacology and broadly in health data analysis
About Us
Our Society has its roots in the “Population Approach Group in India – PAGIN” started in the year 2008 and has successfully propagating pharmacometrics in India ever since. PAGIN is known around the world and recognized by other pharmacometric societies for its annual pharmacometric workshops. The SOPHAS society is working with an expanded mandate including health care data analytics along with our core focus on pharmacometrics in drug development and clinical applications.
Our Vision
To champion quantitative research in healthcare data analytics, drug development and its appropriate use for the benefit of all stakeholders
Our Objective
To serve as a platform for education, training, exchange and research for the academic community, industry scientists and regulators with an interest in quantitative and translational research in the entire gamut of drug development, its optimal use and health care data analysis
Founder of Sophas
Late Dr. Ramalingam Sankaran
Dr.Ramalingam Sankaran was a Clinician and Pharmacologist by training. After a career as an educator at PSG institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSGIMSR), Coimbatore, India, he pursued his post-Doctoral research at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California, USA and University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He underwent training on pharmacometrics and carried out research projects during his stints abroad. He started the Population Approach Group in India (PAGIN) a non-profit organization to promote population approach of pharmacokinetic data analysis in India in the year 2008. He was instrumental in conducting annual training programs every year over the past decade. These programs benefited academicians, students and industry scientists of pharmacometrics in India. PAGIN evolved into a new Society of Pharmacometrics and Health Analytics (SOPHAS) in the year 2020. Dr. Ramalingam Sankaran was the founder president of this society and after his departure to his heavenly abode in the year 2021, his memories are an inspiration and the guiding light for the SOPHAS in the years to come.
